Miscarriages Linked to Heart Attacks

We all know health habits and family history help determine a person's risk for heart attack.  What you probably haven't heard is that miscarriage is also associated with heart disease.  Researchers now say that women who suffer from multiple miscarriages have a significantly greater risk of having a heart attack later in life.  After analyzing data from more than 11,000 women doctors discovered that each miscarriage elevated the chances of heart attack.  Women who had more than three miscarriages, had a nine times higher risk of having a heart attack.  Those who had a stillbirth had a 3.5 fold higher risk.
One expert points out that many of the women in the study who had a stillbirth were less active and had higher rates of diabetes and high blood pressure which are risk factors for heart disease. Study subjects who miscarried more than three times also were heavier which increases the likelihood of a heart related event.
